Looks like Amazon has the book back at a 10% discount, so kindly disregard the previous post about screwing them. Unless they raise the price again. To be honest, their pricing algorithm is pretty much shrouded in mystery, so who knows. If you want to support your local comics and games retailers, though, and buy Zombocalypse Now there, that would still be awesome. I’m just sayin’.

Also, I found this cool image of a giant robot made out of amazon boxes. Does it want to crush independent book retailers under the weight of it’s corrugated fury? Maybe!

Just discovered that Amazon has dropped the 10% discount on Zomboacalypse Now, and currently has the book for sale at full cover price. You know what that means, of course: Screw ‘em! Go buy the book at your local comics or game shop instead.

Seriously, I don’t think this is awful news or anything, since I doubt that extra $1.50 is the deciding factor on most of my Amazon sales. And if you’re dead set on a bargain, barnesa&noble.com still has the book at 10% off. The Kindle e-book version, of course, sells for the low, low price of $5.99 (I figure if you dropped a couple hundred bucks on something to read it on, you deserve a price break).

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m blogging weekly now over at favorite thing EVER. It’s something of a review site, although “review” probably isn’t the best term, since really it’s all about unabashed gushing over things I love the most. So check out one of my most beloved childhood memories, or my favorite way to combine alcohol with board games. Here’s my all-time favorite Alan Moore comic. And, of course, a shameless plug for Zombocalypse Now (because I know upon which side my bread is buttered).

The site is pretty new, so feel free to leave a comment over there. That way they know I am a valuable asset driving all-important monetizing eyeballs!

Added a new page to the site this weekend — just a place where I can collect snippets from Zombocalypse Now reviews and point people to the full text. I realized that even though I usually do a blog post every time someone pimps the book, they disappear down the river pretty quick, so I just wanted to give them a more prominent spot on the site.

My author interviews are also there, including the 30-minute podcast with Seattle Geekly (which, if you’re anything like me, you’ll listen to while constantly wondering if you really sound like that. You do!). Check ‘em out.

My old friend Matt Driscoll has filed a lengthy post over at the Weekly Volcano’s “Spew” blog about the Homegrown Heroes signing at Comic Book Ink this weekend. For a bit of background, I actually gave Matt his first writing gig at the Tacoma Reporter years ago (and, if memory serves, willfully ignored the fact that at the time he needed a fake I.D. to get into bars and cover rock shows for us).

Anyone familiar with Driscoll’s work will know that the article is about four paragraphs about his personal life followed by maybe ten words on the event he’s theoretically covering (he was the same way back when he wrote for me — kids these days), but for a thrilling tale of friendship, betrayal and redemption, check out the post. It’s all true, except for the part where I was ever mad at him. And don’t forget to stop by and get a book signed at Comic Book Ink in Tacoma tomorrow from 2-5!

I’ll be signing books at Comic Book Ink in Tacoma on Saturday, June 19 from 2-5 pm as part of the Homegrown Heroes signing (directions). Also at the event will be members of the Dockyard Derby Dames, some of the folks who put together The Gamers: Dorkness Rising (which I saw on netflix recently, and which is hilarious) Heroclix sculptor Ben Misenar, Author Jack Cameron, and cartoonists Mark Monlux and James Stowe. You should come out and see us! Especially since it’s my first formal book signing, and I have every expectation of sitting alone in a corner for three hours, weeping quietly.

John Munn at Comic Book Ink has been a tremendous supporter of Zombocalypse Now, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be signing at his store. I’m not just saying that, either — John was the very first retailer to stock the book, was instrumental in helping me get picked up by Alliance Games and Diamond Comics, and sold books for me at this year’s Emerald City Comic Con. Without his tireless support, there’s no chance that the book would have had a fraction of the success it’s enjoyed so far. This is also the last big event at the shop’s current location before they pack up and move to their new spot next to the Regal Cinemas right off I-5, so come celebrate with us!

The Homegrown Heroes event is a bit of a homecoming for me, since after 18 years of T-town bliss I moved northward to Seattle last year to be closer to the day job (and shack up with my sweetie). So I really hope to see some old friends there — my old Pandemonium Magazine, Tacoma Reporter and Weekly cohorts, the Ex-Kinko’s crew, etc. etc, — and hopefully some new ones as well.

Comic Book Ink. Saturday from 2-5. There will also be Roller Derby Girls. That is all.

Finally have a chance to breathe a little after our whirlwind con schedule over the past couple of weeks (well, that’s what it felt like to me, anyway), so I figured I’d take a minute and jot down my convention impressions. This might get kind of lengthy, so buckle in.

Thursday the 22nd I drove down to Portland (a city which I adore, although I didn’t get the chance to combine Red Stripe and Qbert at Ground Kontrol, which is the entire reason I usually make the trip) and split the weekend between Gamestorm and the Public Library Association Show. Both were interesting, but the culture shock of going back and forth took a little getting used to. My book was on display at the IBPA booth at the library thing, and that was mostly about meeting book folks and trying to kind of soak up the publishing industry through osmosis. I’m not sure if it’ll pay out in terms of books sold to libraries vs. cost of being there, but it was definitely worth checking out, especially since it coincided with the REAL reason for our visit. I finally set up a facebook fan page (mostly in an effort to separate the book-related updates from the “saw Clash of the Titans and it made me want to claw my eyeballs out” stuff), and launched a brand new twitter feed as well. These will likely feature most of the same stuff, so feel free to pick your poison and utilize whichever social networking platform yanks your particular chain.

You can follow or friend Choosoematic Books (despite the corporate title, I represent the entire marketing department here, so you can be assured that all posts and tweets will come directly from your pal, Matt) by clicking on the icons at the top of the sidebar to the right.

Oh, also, I’ve been meaning to post a big Norwescon / Gamestorm / Public Library Show con-wrap up, so you can expect that later this evening, maybe?

Emerald City Comic Con has come and gone, and left me pleasantly exhausted. I met lots of folks, gave away a ton of buttons and promo cards, and gave copies of Zombocalypse Now to such geek luminaries as Wil Wheaton (who seemed genuinely excited about the book), Brian Bendis, Joe Quesada, Kate Beaton, David Malki, Scott Kurtz and others. Dawn Marie got to meet Lou Ferigno, who did not get a copy of ZN, and will have to buy his own. She did, however, congratulate him on getting to punch a grizzly bear in the face on our favorite episode on “The Incredible Hulk.”

Special thanks to Comic Book Ink for having the book for sale at the convention, and to Geeks of Doom for extending the book giveaway for a couple of days to give con-goers a chance to enter. Next up: Gamestorm and Norwescon!
